Getting caught up

It's been a surprisingly quick and busy month, and it's hard to believe that August is almost 1/2 way over. Noah turned 18 mos. old last Friday, and his curiosity and strong willed personality are coming out more and more.

It's amazing how quickly he learns new things, repeats what we say/do, and remembers certain things. Over the past few months, he's become a "little boy" in front of our eyes. He's gotten 3 inches taller since his 15 mo. doctor visit and is coming in at 32 inches tall (56th %) and weighing 29.3 oz (86th%). We thought his weight percentile might be down at this visit, b/c he's gotten taller and is starting to thin out and lose some of his baby fat (sad!!), but he's hanging strong in those upper percentiles.

Sadly, Noah's great-grandmother Nanny (Tyra's mom's mom) passed away on August 1, so we spent some time in Hendersonville with family. It's joyful to know that Noah got to spend some great quality time with Nanny on some past visits, and he always enjoyed seeing her and getting into mischief with all of the non-toys on her coffee table. She will be missed, but we will enjoy telling Noah all about her in the future and showing him some good pictures we have of them together.

Let's see, what else is Noah up to these days??....Well the vacuum obsession has not gone away, and if anything, is as strong as it's ever been. I mean, this dude loves...I mean LOVES...the vacuum cleaner. Any and every one he sees! The big Oreck vacuum we have, the Swivel Sweeper, the little Wet-Jet Swiffer mop, his own little toy vacuum (although he's discovered the "real vacuums are more fun)...you name it he loves it. He oftentimes will find the little sweepers they have at restaurants when we go out to eat and start demanding he get to play with it.......

This leads to another phase we're in...the temper tantrum. Not getting to play with a vacuum is just one of a few things that triggers a "fall on the floor, arm and leg kicking, screaming fit." Luckily, we've discovered these only last a few seconds, so we rarely give into him, and also luckily, he generally only does this at home when it's just Tyra and me there.

His favorite TV show remains Elmo's World (on Sesame Street) by a landslide, but he's also fond of Disney's "Handy Manny," "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," "Little Einsteins," and "Blue's Clues," which I think comes on Nick Jr.

His appetite isn't what it used to be, and he doesn't eat nearly as much as before. He still eats well though, and his favorites are pasta, bananas, watermelon, cheese, gummy vitamins (of all things), yogurt, and cookie/cracker snacks.

Noah loves music and really enjoys when we sing to him...he's quick to point out when we start singing a song he's not in the mood to hear by saying "No No...No No"...so it's a good thing we have an expansive repertoire to fall back on. I kid you not though, he loves "Rocky Top" and even knows when to "Wooooo" and throws his arms in the air. That's my boy! I'm helping staff an event on campus this Saturday, and I think Tyra will be taking Noah to see the UT Pride of the Southland Band parade to the stadium on their "dress rehearsal" before the home football opener. I'm sure he will love that.

Tyra has be cast as Elaine Robinson (Mrs. Robinson's daughter) in the play "The Graduate" (based on the movie) at the Oak Ridge Playhouse. She's a natural on-stage and will do wonderful! All of the almost nightly rehearsals aren't fun for us (we miss Mommy), but Noah and I have enjoyed having guy time after dinner - which usually consists of playing mini-golf around the house with his Lil' Tykes golf set, trying to convince Noah that we don't need to vacuum the house again, singing silly songs, playing with blocks, and playing the "hide the blue ball" game.

This past weekend Noah had fun at his best friend Addie's 2 year old birthday party, where he devoured lots of sweet goodies, and enjoyed the subsequent sugar rush. He was a little wild man and had a lot of fun. Then on Sunday, we had a great family day at the local park's splash pad, where Noah loved swinging and playing in all of the water fountains.

Other than all of that, it's just same ol' same ol' on Rocky Top. Here are some photos from the past few weeks:

The Adventures of Noah ~ The Missing Beachball

Since there's nothing good on TV in the summer anyway, how about a sneak peak at NBC's new fall mystery/drama...(it's better viewed by double clicking on the picture below and watching it on YouTube)

Stars and Stripes

We took Noah to the Farragut 4th of July Parade last weekend. He had a really good time and enjoyed seeing the helicopters, police cars, marching bands and all the people walking by. I thought he'd get bored pretty quickly, but he hung in there for well over an hour. Thankfully, the weather has been pretty nice here, and not as humid lately.

We arrived at the parade a little earlier than expected, so we spent a good 30 minutes letting Noah run around the new Kroger Marketplace store, which I think was the highlight of his day. He knows where all the "nacks" (aka free samples) are and is not bashful about trying 2 or 3 of each. Then, since it wasn't crowded at all in the early morning, we just chased him around the entire store.

The Summer So Far

We just got back from an awesome trip to Cincinnati to visit our good friends Michael, Emily, and their 14 month old son, Jacob. Since it was the first time we'd been to Cincinnati, we were treated to the full Cincy experience - A Reds baseball game, Montgomery Inn Boathouse ribs, Graeter's ice cream, and Skyline chili. It was a lot of fun, and Noah really enjoyed playing with Jacob.

Noah turned 16 months old yesterday, and he's had a busy summer so far. Here are some recent photos.

Fun At The Beach

We were blessed to be able to spend our anniversary (5 years!! woo!) at Seabrook Island (SC) again this year. We love it there so much, and had so much fun. Noah was only 3 months old last year on our trip, so of course the ocean, sand, and waves were new to him. He LOVED it! He played hard, and he rested hard. He slept so well (naps and night time) while we there, which was great because Tyra and I had a chance to catch up on some R&R.

Here are a few highlights of our trip:

- Chased Noah up and down the beach...as he was chasing the "Ducks" (aka seagulls). He would say "quack, quack" at them. He's also a little confused and thinks that birds also "Meow" like cats, so he "meowed" a lot at the seagulls. I estimate he ran at least 1 mile during this 2 hour time period.

- Strolled the streets of Charleston, ate at AW Shucks for lunch, which was good. Noah enjoyed walking out on the pier in Charleston.

- Swam with Noah in the pool. Noah enjoyed sitting in the little jet ski float we got him.

- On Seabrook Island there is a lot of wildlife. We saw dozens of deer...yes, Noah thinks they "meow" too.

- Food is one of our big weaknesses at Seabrook. We devoured our favorite shrimp & grits at Rosebank Farms Cafe (twice), ate a cinnamon roll almost every day from Newton Farms grocery store(with extra icing!!), and I cooked a special anniversary dinner of filets and crab cakes. We decided to cook at the house for this meal so that we could have an "us" dinner after Noah was in bed! It was awesome.

Now for some photos:

So excited to be in the ocean!

Want To Sing The "NO" Song?

The "no" phase is alive and well!

This is just a 30 second clip of the entire 5 minute version of this game we played yesterday in the car as Mommy drove. We got into the theme of "Cinco de Mayo" (video was taken on 5/5/09) too, asking him if he wanted to sing the taco song, burrito song, salsa song, etc....then, the game was over when he said "Yeah" twice to "Do you want to sing the Corona song." Oops!!!

Just One Of The Guys

Noah went to the park the other day to play with his good buddy Houston. They had a great time, and Noah had fun playing with all the bigger boys. It's getting more difficult to bring Noah inside now that the weather is warmer. He loves being outside so much, and he doesn't approve of us bringing back inside most of the time. "Strong willed" and "opinionated?" Guilty as charged!!

2009 Orange & White Football Game

Last Saturday, we took Noah to the UT Orange & White spring football game. We had a great time, and Noah enjoyed watching the big crowd of people. I (Eric) was working a UT event in the skyboxes, so we were all able to hang out and watch the game in a personal box, which was awesome, especially for a loud, curious, and energetic 14 1/2 month old.

While I'm not ready to proclaim the 2009 VOLS as the best team in the SEC by any means, it was good to watch football again. Here are a few photos, and I will be adding some more later:

2nd Haircut, 1st Sucker (Lollipop)

Tyra took Noah this afternoon to get his 2nd haircut. This dude's hair grows as fast as lightning, so it was well past time for him to get his ear's lowered again. Not only is he looking dapper and sharp, but he got to have his first ever sucker/lollipop and was cracking up the barbershop by saying a loud "mmmmmmmmmmmmm" with every lick.

Happy Easter!

HE is risen! HE is risen, indeed.
We are so thankful for another beautiful Easter Sunday and for the many blessings that God has given us. We hope everyone has a very Happy Easter and take time to reflect on Jesus's life, death, and resurection. Jesus gave His all, all to Him, we owe!

Noah's Easter outfit today was the same one that I wore on my 2nd Easter. We both have February birthdays, but as you can tell, Noah is a lot taller than I was and he "fills out" the cute bunny outfit a little bit more than I did!

Noah - Easter 2009 - 14 months old

We got up and went to the early service at church, which was wonderful. Then came home and ate a great lunch that Tyra made....ham, mac 'n cheese, pineapple cheese casserole, green beans, rolls, and an unreal homemade carrot cake with homemade cream cheese icing. "Mmmmmmm," said Noah several times at lunch! Andrew and cousin Thomas joined us at church and lunch, then stayed around to watch some of the Master's golf tournament.

Noah had a great time picking up Easter eggs and smushing them in his hands. Here are a few more pictures from the entire Easter weekend:
